Service Description

For ages 6-12 years old ONLY! Please note that in an effort to keep these courses as hands on as possible, class sizes are small. Classes fill up quickly! No Experience necessary! Over the course of 4 weeks, your child will be taught the fundamentals of wheel throwing - from wedging and centering, to pulling walls, trimming your vessel, and glazing. Handbuilding will also be explored, as students learn to alter and decorate their wheel thrown vessels.   These lessons will be tailored to their specific needs and interests, as they work at their own pace, and receive two hours of instruction per class session.  All tools and materials are provided, and the cost of firing their work is included! Course Breakdown: Week 1: - Studio, tools, and equipment overview - The timeline of pottery making - Wedging - Centering, opening, and wall formation/pulling - Removing your work from the wheel - Studio cleanup  Week 2: -Maintenance of works in progress - Review centering, opening, and wall formation/pulling - Shaping the walls - Exploration of pottery tools - Advanced techniques - Creating texture on the wheel Week 3: - Working with leather hard surfaces - Trimming techniques  - Carving and adding surface detail - Pulling handles - Attaching hand-built details to wares - Preparing wares for their first firing Week 4: - Bisque firings vs. glaze firings - Applying wax resist on the wheel and freehand - What is glaze and how to work with it - The differences between underglaze, brush-on glaze, and dipping glaze - How to dip glaze your wares

Cancellation Policy

​This business is owned and operated by one person, as well as a small selection of part-time instructors. As such, Pinch runs solely on appointment based scheduling, and your mindfulness + consideration of our time and resources is greatly appreciated. With that in mind, when you book a session with us, you are not only supporting a small business, but we are also holding a space for you within our (limited) booking calendar. This means that your scheduled time slot is no longer able to be booked by anyone else. Rescheduling: Lessons, classes, and drop-in time may be rescheduled one (1) time, free of charge, but must be done at least 48 hours prior to the start of the scheduled session.  Cancellations: Your health and well-being is very important to us! Lessons, classes, and drop-in time may be canceled at any time for a full refund, with no cancellation fee, up until 1 week prior to the scheduled session.  For cancellations made within 1 week (and prior to 48hrs) of the scheduled session, there is a fee equal to 50% of the cost of the original booking.  Cancellations made within 48hrs of the scheduled session are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.  ​Workshop tickets are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. ​Private events are non-refundable, but may be rescheduled if provided with notice of 10 0r more days. ​ Party Modifications: No refunds will be made for those in your party unable to attend. However, if desired, a voucher can be provided for a future communal session, so long as we were notified that they would not be in attendance, prior to the start of the session. If we are not notified ahead of time, then they will be considered a no call, no show, and therefore they will no longer be eligible for a voucher.  Please note: This policy does not change for unexpected life events, obligations, or a change in your plans.   There is absolutely no refund , rescheduling, or vouchers provided for no shows.​ You will find that many small pottery studios, similar to Pinch, have a strict no-refund policy.  In an effort to keep things fair to all (ourselves included), NO exceptions will be made. We greatly appreciate your respect and understanding.
